Polder window
The window for Polder, the smart memory manager
Get it
If you've already added the repository, just run:
sudo apt install polder-desktop
First-time setup (add repository)
curl -fsSL -o /tmp/colaapps-archive-keyring.gpg \
https://colaapps.com/repo/colaapps-archive-keyring.gpg &&
sudo install -D -m 0644 /tmp/colaapps-archive-keyring.gpg \
/etc/apt/keyrings/colaapps-archive-keyring.gpg
sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/colaapps.list > /dev/null <<'EOF'
deb [signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/colaapps-archive-keyring.gpg] https://colaapps.com/repo stable main
EOF
sudo apt update
sudo apt install polder-desktop
The first two commands install the ColaApps signing key, so apt verifies every index it
downloads. Needs curl. Debian and Ubuntu.
Added ColaApps before, with [trusted=yes]? That turns
signature checking off — run the block above again, it overwrites the old line.
About
Polder window
The window for Polder, the smart memory manager. It shows how the machine's memory is, and the slider that sets how much Polder does. Choosing a stop previews it: what it does and which settings it brings in. Nothing changes until Apply, which asks for an administrator's password. Drawn with WorkIt's own graphics code, so it looks the same on WorkIt and on Debian. Polder's warnings also arrive as desktop notifications; clicking one opens the window.
Alerts
When Polder warns that memory is running out, or holds back a program that is eating it, a
notification says so, at the urgency the moment deserves: a critical one stays on screen until
you dismiss it. Polder decides when to speak (it does not repeat itself, and keeps quiet hours
if you set them with sudo polder set alert.quiet 22:00-07:00); the desktop only shows it.
Turn them off per person in your desktop's notification settings, under Polder.
Install
Add the ColaApps APT repository (the APT tab above), then:
sudo apt install polder-desktop
That installs Polder itself too. Open Polder from the applications menu.
Requirements
Debian 13 or later, or Ubuntu 24.04 or later (glibc 2.39), on amd64, with a desktop. The window uses X11, or XWayland on a Wayland desktop.
