About
Hitman v0.7.0
Self-hosted SSH terminal manager — accessible from any browser, packaged as a standalone binary or Electron desktop app.
What's new in v0.7.0
Jump hosts (bastion/ProxyJump)
Connect to servers behind a bastion host. Configure a jump host per connection with its own authentication (key or password). Hitman opens a channel through the bastion and connects transparently — the terminal session is with the target server.
Auto-reconnect
When a network hiccup drops an SSH session, Hitman reconnects automatically with exponential backoff (2s → 4s → 8s … capped at 30s, up to 10 attempts). The terminal stays open and shows a reconnect countdown. On success, a "── reconnected ──" line appears inline. Local terminals never auto-reconnect (they exit intentionally).
Command palette (Ctrl+K)
Press Ctrl+K (or Cmd+K on Mac) from anywhere in the dashboard to open a fuzzy-search command palette across all your connections. Arrow keys to navigate, Enter to connect, Escape to close. Shows connection host and group breadcrumb path.
Environment color labels
Color-code connections by environment. Six named labels: Production (red), Staging (amber), Development (green), Database (purple), Monitoring (blue), Other (gray). The color shows as a dot in the sidebar and a bottom border on the tab — at a glance you know which server you're typing in.
Connection notes
Add a free-text description to any connection. Shown as a tooltip when hovering in the sidebar. Great for documenting the server's purpose, owner, or caveats.

Binaries are self-contained — no separate Node.js installation required.
Installation
Windows
Run the .exe — it is a standalone binary, not an installer. Copy it anywhere and run it. On first run it starts the web service and opens a browser window. A system tray icon lets you control the service.
Linux (Debian/Ubuntu)
sudo dpkg -i hitman_0.7.0_amd64.deb # or arm64
# Configure (all settings optional — defaults work out of the box)
sudo nano /etc/hitman/hitman.env
# Service
sudo systemctl status hitman
sudo journalctl -u hitman -f
Hitman runs as the hitman system user, stores data in /var/lib/hitman/, and is accessible at http://localhost:9021.
Configuration
Place in /etc/hitman/hitman.env (Linux service) or %APPDATA%\Hitman\data\.env (Windows):
# HITMAN_PORT=9021
# HITMAN_HOST=0.0.0.0 # expose on the network (default: 127.0.0.1)
# HITMAN_DATA=/var/lib/hitman
# HITMAN_ADMIN_USER=admin
# HITMAN_ADMIN_PASS=changeme
# DoIt OIDC (optional)
# HITMAN_DOIT_ISSUER=https://id.thework.cloud/oauth
# HITMAN_DOIT_CLIENT_ID=hitman
# HITMAN_DOIT_CLIENT_SECRET=...
# HITMAN_REDIRECT_URI=http://localhost:9021/auth/callback
First run
On first run with an empty database, Hitman creates an admin account using HITMAN_ADMIN_USER / HITMAN_ADMIN_PASS (defaults: admin / admin) and prints the credentials to the terminal. Change the password immediately via Settings → Users.
